General donations and the typeahead
A gift with no athlete attached stays with the program. It is never split across the roster.
The three ways a donation gets attributed
| How | What happens |
|---|---|
| A personal link | The athlete is already locked in before the donor touches anything. This is the best one and it is silent. |
| The typeahead | The donor types a few letters into "Who are you raising for?" and picks a name off your roster. |
| Nothing chosen | It is a General Donation and it belongs to the program. |
The typeahead only searches your roster
It is not a name field. A donor cannot type a name that is not on your roster and have it stick. They pick a real athlete or they pick General Donation, and there is no third option.
This is why one athlete never turns into five records with slightly different spellings, and it is why your leaderboard is still true in year three. It also means a kid who is not on your roster cannot receive credit, so paste your roster before you start sharing.
Where general donations go
Into the program bucket. They count toward your program total, your thermometer, and your contributor count. They show as General Donation in your CSV.
