Printing and QR codes
How QR codes work
Every athlete has one and so does the team. Point a phone camera at it, no app needed.
A QR code here is just the link in a form a camera can read. Every modern phone camera reads them with no app: open the camera, point it, tap the banner that appears.
Where to get one
| You want | Where |
|---|---|
| One athlete’s code, on screen | Press QR on their roster row. Screenshot it, or hold the phone up. |
| The team’s code | On the dashboard, Hand out tab. |
| Every athlete’s code, on paper | The printable cards. See Print athlete cards. |
Making them scan reliably
- Size. About an inch and a half is fine for something held in a hand. For a banner people scan from ten feet away, go to four inches or more. The rule of thumb is one inch of code for every ten feet of distance.
- Contrast. Black on white. Do not print one on a dark team color and do not put it over a photo.
- Quiet space. Leave a clear margin around the code. Text crowding the edge is the most common reason a code will not read.
- Do not stretch it. Scale it evenly or it stops being square and stops scanning.
- Test it before you print 200. Scan your own printout with your own phone.

What is on a printed card
Four things: a QR code, the athlete’s name, the link written out, and your organization’s name.
Stickers, labels, and yard signs
You can put these links on anything. Here is what works, and what to watch for when you leave this product.
The team link
One link and one QR code for the whole program. For banners, newsletters, and anyone who is not one athlete’s family.
