How athlete names work
First name and last initial, and that is the entire record. No photos, no emails, no accounts.
A roster row is a first name, a last initial, and a four character code. That is all of it. Whatever you paste is narrowed down to that shape before it is saved.

Two kids with the same name
If you have two Jack J on the team, give one of them something that tells them apart before you paste: "Jack J" and "Jack Jo" both work and both look normal on a card. Otherwise the second one is treated as a repeat of the first and only one row is created.
Fixing a spelling
There is no rename. Add the correct spelling, then remove the wrong one. If the wrong one has donations attached, it will be hidden rather than deleted so the money stays where it belongs. See Remove a player.
Why so little
These are minors. The best protection for a kid’s data is not holding it in the first place. There are no photos, no student emails, no birthdates, no grades, and no accounts anywhere in this product. See What we hold about athletes.
